ASTBURY greens chairman Bob Egerton and junior captain Jack Machin posted a remarkable ace double within a few days of each other on the same hole at their club – defying the odds of 12,500-1 against this being achieved.
Most golfers go through their entire career without notching an ace but Bob now has an amazing eight and for Jack it was his second.
Machin, 17, attends Eaton Bank School. He said: “It was a great feeling and I look forward to scoring many more.”
Egerton has been instrumental in the recent transformation of Astbury from a middle-ranked Cheshire course to one of the best in the county was equally upbeat about his amazing result.
“Jack will have more opportunities to repeat his achievement but I feel that there may still be one or two more in there for me.
“It’s traditional to buy the drinks after an ace but as Jack is unable to buy alcohol due to his age, he got off lightly. That was not the case for me however!”
