BILL Bromilow has won the Chorley Golf Club Championship for a record eighth time.
But the former Lancashire County captain, who defeated Craig Middleton 2&1, almost bowed out at the quarter-final stage when he was three holes down with four to play against Jack Wiggans.
“I thought I’d blown my chance but I scraped through,” said Bromilow, 55, a one handicapper whose achievements include three championship titles in the Bolton Golf Association of which he is team captain.
Bromilow was the county’s most successful captain who in five years led the Red Rose men to four Daily Telegraph Northern Counties League Championships and two English Finals victories.
