Carus Green junior captain is Cumbrian champion

CARUS Green Golf Club’s junior captain, Harriet Barker, has won the 2018 Cumbria County Ladies Championship.

Harriet, 16, who is one of Carus’s most successful junior players, won the three-day matchplay event at Appleby.

Currently taking her GCSE’s at the Queen Katherine School in Kendal, Harriet who described her win as “absolutely thrilling”, will be going to the Champion of Champions England Golf competition to represent Cumbria on September 9 at Frilford Heath, Oxfordshire.

Playing off a handicap of just three, this most recent win is just one in a string of successful achievements for the young golfer.

Currently holder of the Carus Ladies Club Championship trophy for the past three years and the Cumbria Girls County champion for 2017, Harriet also represented Cumbria at the England Golf Champion of Champions in September 2017.
She forms part of a strong and growing female junior section that is thriving at Carus Green, with 19-year-old scratch player, Ellie Broome and 15-year-old Caitlin Whitehead, who plays off a handicap of +1.1, part of this elite group. And it would seem that ‘girl power’ is in the air for the entire female section at Carus, regardless of age, with current lady captain, Ali Dufty, the 2018 County Bronze Champion of the Coulthard Cup, and golf manager, Margaret Bebington, the County Vets Nett Champion, winning the Moulie Moore Trophy in April.
“Harriet has started the season with a bang and we are delighted for her on this brilliant win,” said her coach, Carus’s head professional, Dave Turner.

“She has an exemplary work ethic, is a tremendous ambassador for the game and so inspiring for the younger club members. We know she’s going to have a really successful 2018,” he added.
