Chari-tee event to be held for BCH

THE family of a Whitchurch girl born with a heart defect are looking for support for a golf day to raise money for the hospital which treated her.

Kelly Lowe, who co-owns a golf consultancy business, will be hosting the charity day on Friday, July 12 at Portal in Tarporley to raise funds for Birmingham Children’s Hospital (BCH), where her daughter Zara is treated.

Kelly, who gave birth to Zara in February 2008, said the pregnancy was normal and no defects were found but within a few hours of being born, problems formed before eventually receiving a diagnosis of a congenital heart defect called Tetralogy of Fallot’s. But with Zara now living a full life, Kelly is hoping to say thanks to the staff there by raising money at the golf day.

“At just 10 days surgeons performed a successful open heart surgery, Zara recovered well and was home for the first time after around a month,” said Kelly, who works with golf courses to help turn their fortunes around.

“Zara needed further open heart surgery which she successfully went through at 11 months, three years and five years old. She is now a thriving 11-year-old, playing for a local girls’ football team and living life to the full.

“She will require further operations as she gets older but for now, she is enjoying growing up with her friends.

“Birmingham Children’s Hospital have been amazing to all of the family in so many ways and we want to raise vital funds ensure this continues.”

The golf day is accepting teams of four at £120, which includes a bacon roll and coffee; a longest drive competition; a prize table and presentation; a raffle and a speech from Zara herself. Businesses and individuals can sponsor holes from two through to eight and 10 through to 17 which costs £100 tee and green, while it costs £250 for hole one, £150 for hole nine and £350 for the 18th green.

Anyone looking to sponsor the whole event, it will cost £1,500 while it will be £1,000 for the prize table.
