Chorley golfers on course for success

CHORLEY Golf Club broke new ground when they launched a women’s academy at the start of the summer.

And with four-time Ladies European Tour winner Lora Fairclough, who cut her teeth on the game at the Heath Charnock club, in charge of coaching it’s not surprising the initiative proved a big hit.

It comprised three stages, teeing off with a taster session followed by group lessons spread over eight weeks leading to club membership.

Club member Stephanie Patterson, who spearheaded the campaign, said: “The results were amazing with 16 people signing up.

“Many women can feel intimidated and lack confidence when joining a club on their own, especially as golf is perceived as a predominantly men’s sport.

“But we encouraged newcomers to embrace the passion we have for the game, meet new friends and not feel alone in what can be described as a “life changing” experience.

“The involvement of existing members supporting the academy has had a positive impact on the morale and enthusiasm of our ladies.”
