A STORMING final round of 68 saw former Clays professional Simon Edwards win the individual pro prize in the 2015 Golfbreaks.com Pinehurst Pro-Am at Kiawah Island’s Turtle Point Course in America.
The Windermere pro, originally from Wrexham, began the last day in third but his bogey-free final round allowed him to leapfrog to the winner’s position.
“I played great,” said Edwards. “I found something on the range on the final morning after two poor days of golf. The windy conditions suited me – I grew up playing in conditions like this, but yeah I played good.”
Edwards’ win came as the event had a last minute change in venue due to heavy snow from Pinehurst in North Carolina to the South Carolina resort.
“We travelled over to Pinehurst early when the weather went South over there,” said Edwards. “So for Golfbreaks.com and the PGAs of Europe to organise coming down to Kiawah was phenomenal.”
The eventual winner mastered the windy conditions of the Turtle Point Course with just four bogeys for his 68 and an event total of four-over-par 220.
