AN AWARD-winning golf volunteer is throwing her support behind the new Wirral Golf Academy.

Louise McLoughlin, England Golf’s Young Ambassador of the Year, has joined the team at the charity which was set up in 2019 to encourage more young people to take up the game of golf.

Louise plays at Bromborough Golf Club and has represented her club and county at both junior and adult level.

Her enthusiasm for golf and her desire to help more people, especially girls, to get involved is second to none. Having just completed her A Levels with an impressive set of results, Louise is set to have a year off from her academic studies and concentrate on golf.

At the Wirral Golf Academy Louise will be helping PGA Professional Simon Hooton and Academy Founder and Level One coach Angela Dale with sessions for the youngest members who form The Seedlings section. She will be going on to take her level one coaching qualification in November this year.

Louise brings plenty of experience to the Academy having previously been a Girls Golf Rocks ambassador in Cheshire while also volunteering at a variety of girls taster sessions and celebration events.

In 2018 her own club, Bromborough, took part in the Girls Golf Rocks initiative and Louise visited local schools to promote the club’s taster event and encourage girls to attend. Bromborough had a great turn out with some of the girls saying that they had only gone along because they had met Louise at their school so they knew there would be a friendly face there.

Louise has also presented to representatives from Cheshire golf clubs about golf from a junior perspective, outlining the advice she would give to new juniors and what she thought clubs and the county could do to attract more young people to the game.

Angela Dale, founder of the Academy commented: “I am delighted that Lou has decided to join the team, she is warm and welcoming to the children and she will make a great role model. I am sure all the children will benefit from her in both golf and life skills.”

Louise said: “I am so happy to be a part of the Academy, watching the children grow in their golf and also as people, to help them believe in their golf/abilities and to be part of that transformation. I’m really grateful to Angela for making me feel so welcome and can’t wait for us all to progress together as a team”.

The Wirral Golf Academy is a registered Community Interest Company (CIC) which is a not for profit organisation and it’s main focus is to promote junior golf across Wirral. The academy uses Hoylake and Arrowe Park municipal courses as their training grounds, which both provide a safe secure environment for members.
