Everton stars at Wilmslow

SOME of Wilmslow Golf Club’s youngsters got to meet four Everton international footballers after the quartet enjoyed a recent fourball behind the club’s annual Junior Open.

Midfielder Gareth Barry, a Wilmslow member, was joined by current England star Phil Jagielka, new signing Tom Cleverley and Scotsman Stephen Naismith. They were happy to pose for photos with the youngsters afterwards.

In the Open event, junior captain Sam Proctor was the proud winner of the Robinson Trophy after he beat more than 50 others with a nett 66. Wilmslow’s Terry Mackenzie was second with 67 and Ryan McCandless (Crewe) third with 68.

Five-handicapper Sam made it a double as he also had the best gross score of 71, which saw him clear of Styal pair Will Dodds (73) and Will Lucas (75).

In the U15 age group McCandless led in with 68 from Lucas and Edward Reed who both had 70. The top girl was Victoria Turner of Delamere Forest with 73.
