A FATHER and son duo scored an impressive double in the pairs knockouts at Old Padeswood Golf Club, by winning both the Foursomes and Fourball competitions.
John and Jack Carden, who play off eight and four handicaps respectively, battled through 10 rounds in all, winning both finals 4&3 on consecutive days.
It is the first year that John, a mental health nurse, and Jack, a student at The University of Central Lancashire, have entered the knockout events as a pair, which made the achievements all the more impressive.
John said: “When we got through to the two finals, we thought one win would be great, but to win the two was really unexpected, as both pairs we were playing against were very good golfers.”
Jack added: “It was a great feeling to win both competitions, and to remain unbeaten throughout, because we had some very tough matches.”
The Cardens will now represent Old Padeswood in the Daily Mail foursomes competition, where they hope to keep their unbeaten run going.
