THE new captains at Frodsham Golf Club braved freezing conditions to take part in their traditional Drive-In earlier this month. There was a great turnout to see Jim Speedy, Kath Belt and junior captain Chris Vaughan take to the first tee with a specially modified golf club manufactured and provided by Frodsham pro Graham Tonge.
Members then played in a Betterball Matchplay event over 11 holes and in a closely fought match the winners, by a narrow margin, were the new captain’s team beating the past captain’s team by 9.5 points to 8.5.
The captains’ charity this year is The Children’s Adventure Farm Trust, at Booth Bank Farm near Altrincham, which has Sir Bobby Charlton as its president. The three new officers managed to raise £135 on the day from a raffle and Guess the Length of Drive’s.
