SIXTY of the leading low handicapped senior golfers from the area played in the inaugural North Wales Seniors Counties Golf Association Seniors Open at the Vale of Llangollen.
Unfortunately the scheduled second round of the 36-hole competition had to be abandoned because of heavy rain, which flooded a number of greens and made playing conditions impossible.
The winner of the competition, decided on the opening 18 holes, was Grahame Barrett of Dukinfield Golf Club. He returned a 73 to beat Timothy Christie (Northenden) on a card countback. Newport’s Andrew Williams finished third on 74.
The winner of the Seiko North Wales Closed Championship was George Smith (Vale of Llangollen) with a score of 79.
