By Geoff Garnett

GRANGE over Sands president Harry Horridge is celebrating his 50th consecutive year as a single figure golfer.

He currently plays off seven and has been as low as 2.5 for three consecutive years.

Harry joined nine-hole Grange Fell Golf Club in 1965 at the age of 13. Following in his father’s footsteps and with expert tuition from the professional his handicap soon reached single figures.

In 1969 Harry joined Grange over Sands where he has enjoyed great success in all club competitions since.

This incredible achievement was recently recognised at both meetings of the past captains of the club where he was presented with a bottle of Champagne and at the Cumbrian club’s AGM where he received an engraved goblet.

His many golfing achievements include being club champion in 1980, club captain in 2002, and he has represented his club in a vast number of interclub matches. Harry is a member of the Cumbria County Alliance committee and he is a squad member of the county’s senior team.
