Jamie ends season on a high

OAK Royal member Jamie Douglas certainly had an interesting 2015.

The nine-handicapper, who originates from Annan, in Scotland, set a new amateur course record at his home club when he fired a 72 gross in June.

At the end of July, the 35-year-old was preparing to move into his new house, when he severed a tendon in his thumb, doing some DIY. This required an operation, and put him out of the game for 10 weeks.

Then in late November, on only his fourth round following his injury, he hit a hole-in-one at the third hole. His drives at one and two had both been to the left of the fairway, but he was spot on with his tee shot at the third. His six iron shot bounced twice and rolled in, much to the excitement of Jamie and his playing partners, the then captain Nigel James, past captain Mark Knowles and this year’s new captain elect Brian Woodhead.

Brian joked: “Jamie even disproved the myth about Scotsman having short arms and deep pockets, when he opened a bottle of malt for all to celebrate.”
