Junior golf series in full swing

By David Birtill

WANNABE Rory McIlroys are signing up for the newly-established Junior Golf Players Series in Chorley which offers opportunities for five to 12-year-olds.

Organiser Andy Leigh, the North West development officer for the Golf Foundation who promotes the HSBC Golf Roots Skills for Life programme, said: “We want to get over the message that there are no barriers preventing anyone from playing the game.

“We already have a growing number of youngsters attending our Euxton Eagles coaching sessions at Euxton Park Golf Centre and the Junior Golf Players Series at Duxbury Park where there is a four-hole short course proving extremely popular.”

Leigh, a member of Chorley Golf Club, is looking for sponsorship from local businesses to cover the price of trophies and medals and to support the JGPS Crew young volunteers with shirts.

Lessons at Euxton cost £5 for a one-hour session (first one FREE) and the Duxbury fun competitions are £8.
