NORTH West golfers, Don Campbell and Keith Gordon, Noel Barrow and Terry Hargrove and Andrew Threlkeld and Nigel Wells have made it through to the National Grand Final of the American Golf Senior Championship after a tense qualifier at Vale Royal Abbey.
They will now take their places at Ryder Cup venue The Belfry on September 9 and 10 to battle it out over the Brabazon Course for the title of best senior pair in the UK.
Thirty-eight pairs took part in the 18-hole Stableford pairs competition. In glorious sunshine it was a hard fought contest with only three points separating the three eventual finalists.
The title of North West champions went to Styal’s Campbell and Gordon, from Sandmoor in Yorkshire, with homesters Barrow and Hargrove in second ahead of current Vale Royal Abbey captain Threlkeld and Wells.
The three pairings will now join qualifiers from all over the UK in front of the Sky Sports cameras at the Grand Final where they will compete across two days of competition to be crowned inaugural American Golf senior champions.
Entry to all of the American Golf Championships, including the American Golf Seniors Championship, is free and is part of the nationwide retailer’s drive to promote the game of golf and get more people out playing golf more often.
