KEITH Melia has been appointed as the new general manager of Davyhulme Park Golf Club.
He brings a great range of administrative, golfing and leisure skills to his new role, which will serve the Manchester-based club superbly. Keith has enjoyed management roles at Sandiway and Wilmslow golf clubs and also as leisure manager with De Vere – working on a major £1million refurbishment of the leisure club and spa and prior to that he served for 23 years at numerous leisure and sporting facilities in various roles.
He is qualified as an FA coach, personal trainer and also a swimming teacher. His professional qualifications include a professional diploma in management studies, Institute of Leisure and Amenity Management and he is a member of the Golf Club Managers’ Association where he served for three years as the North West region’s representative on the national committee.
He began playing golf at the age of 17 at Walton Hall, near Warrington and reached a lowest handicap of four. He went on to become a prominent playing member of Birchwood for more than 20 years. There he has captained both first and second teams at different times in the North West Cheshire League and also reached the national final of the Daily Telegraph Matchplay three times, narrowly missing out on winning a place in the grand final at Vale de Lobo.
Keith has also played in numerous Pro-Am tournaments over the years as well as Manchester Alliance events. He said: “I am very excited about the challenges ahead and look forward to working with the board of directors at Davyhulme under the new management structure as well as other club officials and committees in driving the club forward.”
