A MORECAMBE Golf Club amateur who only took up golf two years ago is in line for a trip to Portugal when she plays in the regional final for the WPGA Lombard Trophy.
Christine Wade will partner WPGA professional Emma Fletcher for the Pro-Am event being held at Dunham Forest Golf Club in Cheshire on July 23.
But it was only an initiative at her local club that made her take up the game.
“I joined at Morecambe’s Ladies Into Golf section, which is something new,” explained Christine, who plays off a handicap of 25.
“They get you into the club for a few lessons, and if you feel like taking it up then you can work towards your handicap and get full membership which I did in my second year. We’ve retired now and I thoroughly enjoy it, I’ve really taken to the game, my handicap’s come down in the last few weeks.
“Myself and Emma came down to Dunham Forest recently for a taster of the event and we throughly enjoyed it.
“My husband’s played for years, I was a golf widow but now it’s the other way around.”
If the Morecambe pair play well then they will be hoping to book a trip to the £7,800 Coca-Cola and Pestana Resorts supported, National Pro-Am grand final which will be played at the Vila Sol resort in the Algarve between September 20-21.
“We had a greetings cards and gift business in Poulton Le Fylde near Blackpool,” explained Christine.
“But we thought the time was right to put it on the market, so we did and now we’re retired. And after that I went to Morecambe Golf Club.
“Things have moved quite quickly and it’d be nice to do well at Dunham Forest with a Portugal final as the prize.”
Other North West teams taking part at Dunham Forest Golf Club include: Ali Gray/Pat Johnson (Ormskirk Golf Club) and Karen Heywood/Maureen Parker (Brookdale Golf Club).
