THE owners of a popular holiday park and retail village near Wrexham have taken over the running of its own golf course clubhouse after it had previously been leased out.
Now the newly named Haybank Clubhouse and Grill at The Plassey, Eyton is already proving a big hit with members and visitors alike after under-going a revamp before it re-opened last month.
Owner Sarah Brookshaw explained: “The previous agreement came to an end and rather than lease it out again we decided to bring it ‘in-house’ so we can offer an even better deal to the golfers and non-golfers that come to eat and drink.
“We have added some nice little touches like barrel tables and a rope chandelier.
“The bar has had a refurb and our new Plassey Bitter is very popular.
“A large room upstairs, that was previously used for storage, has been converted into a lovely members’ room.
“We’ve totally changed the menu and now have a fabulous pizza oven that allows us to create fabulous pizzas. We launched this with a special Pizza Night last month and it went down a storm. There aren’t many golf clubs that can offer authentic pizzas as part of their package, so it’s something that makes us a bit different.”
Sarah and the team, which includes manager Dave Duffy, assistant manager Gareth Povey and Jacqui Day, will also be able to offer barbeque meals after purchasing a special indoor barbeque that can also be used outdoors.
“We’re very versatile,” added Sarah. “Food is served seven days a week and our new society packages offer a wide variety of choice.”
And the improvements haven’t finished yet. Plans are in the pipeline to re-do the patio area to make the most of the fabulous views over the North Wales countryside.
“The course is the best it’s been, which is largely down to the hard work of our greenkeepers in improving the drainage,” added Sarah.
“We felt it was important that the clubhouse also matched this high standard while also been a place the general public will want to make use of. It’s a warm and friendly place with no strict dress code in the clubhouse. We’re working hard to overcome the stigma that is still attached to golf clubs. If our launch weekend is anything to go by then we are definitely moving in the right direction.”
