GOLFERS Local’s rules quizmaster Peter Turner has been appointed the new figurehead of Shropshire & Herefordshire golf.
The Oswestry member has been voted in as the new president of the Shropshire & Herefordshire Union of Golf Clubs, succeeding Shifnal’s Mike Roberts.
The appointment was confirmed at February’s AGM at Shrewsbury Golf Club during which Bob Davies ended his 37-year period as secretary of the union.
Davies will be succeeded as secretary by Worfield’s James Garrison, who will work closely with Turner, a former secretary and treasurer at Oswestry Golf Club.
Turner also has strong connections with national administration as the current chairman of the England Golf Development Committee and a long-term England Golf referee.
Looking ahead to his presidency, Turner said: “I’d like to pay tribute to Mike Roberts who has given a huge amount of time to his duties and been a well respected ambassador. It is an honour and privilege for me personally and my club to have been asked to take on the role.
“I will do my best to keep up the high standards of Shropshire & Herefordshire over the next two years.”
Ludlow’s Ernie Wilks will be president elect for 2015 and 2016.
The meeting also approve that there would be no increase in the county subs for members of the 33 Shropshire & Herefordshire golf clubs this year.
