WITH the Manchester Alliance taking its traditional midwinter break Stamford professional Mark Smith, a former Alliance captain, showed great initiative by staging a four-man team competition at his home club.
There were 20 teams of four in the field, including most of the Alliance’s top playing professionals and some top amateurs. Alliance Order of Merit leader Danny Wardop (Stockport) led in his team of Mike Wardrop, Adam Harrison and John Linsley to a winning 93 points.
They were four clear of Pike Fold pro Grant Hamerton and his Stamford team of Steve Finnan, Dan Fox and Paul Traynor who won a card play-off from the Am-AM team from Regent Park led by Marcus Corfield.
Smith said: It was a great day enjoyed by all and my thanks go to the Stamford club for having a course in such great condition and giving players the traditional friendly welcome and to all of the players for making the effort to play.
