Susan’s charity drive for Air Ambulance

BY DAVID BIRTILL

PLEASINGTON lady captain Susan Caton is planning to play one hole at 18 different courses in the region to raise funds for the North West Air Ambulance Charity.

She will tee off her marathon early on May 29 at Withnell club Oak Royal and complete the round on the final green at her home course before nightfall.

“The route has been carefully planned and with help from my friends at my club and the East Lancashire Ladies’ Golf Association we are aiming to raise £1,500 towards the running costs of the ambulance service,” said Susan.

“It costs the charity £6m per year to operate and maintain their three helicopters and each one takes £3.50 for one minute of fuel. To rescue a golfer in distress from Pleasington Golf Club would amount to more than £1,500, which is why we have set this as our initial target.

“To go over this figure would mean the world to me. To know that our efforts could cover the costs of potentially saving the life of just one East Lancashire golfer will make the whole event worthwhile.”

Susan’s schedule is: Oak Royal (08:00), Darwen (08:45), Dunscar (09:35), Turton (10:10), Greenmount (10:50), Rossendale (11:30), Baxenden (12:10), Burnley (12:55), Townley (13:25), Nelson (14:05), Accrington (14:55), Great Harwood (15:35), Whalley (16:10), Clitheroe (16:45), Mytton Fold (17:20), Wilpshire (17:55), Blackburn (18:30), Pleasington (18:55).
