Telford trio to play four rounds in one day

THREE members of staff at Telford Hotel & Golf Resort will cover the best part of 20 miles while playing four rounds of golf in one day to help raise funds for a colleague diagnosed with stage-four lymphoma.

The resort’s head of golf, Matt Robbins, assistant golf manager, Kieran Nickless, and PGA professional Luke Towler, are aiming to complete a round at each of four courses within the RBH portfolio on June 19, as part of Macmillan Cancer Support’s national Longest Day Golf Challenge.

They will complete 18 holes at QHotels’ Forest Pines Hotel & Golf Resort, in Lincolnshire, before heading west to do likewise at Oulton Hall, in Leeds and Mottram Hall, in Cheshire, before finishing at their own resort in Telford.

Robbins explained: “We are doing this in support of our friend and colleague Naomi Matthews, who was diagnosed with stage-four lymphoma in December 2017. She has gone through intense chemotherapy for more than three months, yet, through all the treatments, side effects and stress, she has remained positive and always manages a smile.

“Her family have done their best to pay her bills and to ensure she keeps her house but everyone needs help in these circumstances, so we decided to participate in the Longest Day Golf Challenge to help with the fundraising.

“It will be a stiff test for all three of us, but it’s nothing in comparison to what our dear friend Naomi is going through – and we would appeal to all the kind-hearted people out there to support and help us by pledging at our fundraising page.”

Everyone who takes on the Longest Day Challenge raises money for Macmillan so the charity can help people live life with cancer by providing vital emotional, practical and medical support when it’s really needed. Since 2002, golfers have raised more than £9 million.

As the largest golf resort operator in the UK, RBH manages nine championship and tournament golf courses across the UK, hosting events from the European Tour, European Seniors Tour, Ladies European Tour and the PGA.
