THE 11th inter-society match between Trafford Eagles Christian Golf Society and Poynton Baptist Church Golf Society took place at Disley last month.
The 21-year-old PBCGS stormed into the lead with vice-captain David Tate and Gareth Winstanley beating the Eagles star pairing of Alan Clitherow and Dave Nutsey 3&2.
Eagles captain Jem Kime and partner Steve McCormick fought back from a three-hole deficit to half their match with Poynton captain Steve Smith and Derek Crookes, and there, the Eagles fight back continued, winning the next three matches.
This saw Trafford Eagles eventually winning the match four and a half to two and a half.
Eagles secretary Brian Dique said: “We have shared some excellent matches and fellowship with our friends at Poynton over the years and this ranked amongst one of the finest events of all, with a high number of birdies being recorded by both sides throughout.
“We experimented with the 2016 new ruling of nine tenths difference in handicapping, which looked really ominous on paper, however all players rolled their sleeves up and produced some stunning golf on both sides.”
Eagles captain Jem Kime lifted The Lighthouse Trophy to complete an inter-society double, following the April victory over The Peak District Christian Golf Society at The Tytherington Club, which has capped a fine year for both captain and society.
