TV appearance for Curzon Park club

CHESTER Golf Club will appear on an episode of BBC hit show Escape to the Country this autumn.

Film crew from the property programme were at the Curzon Park club last month to record a couple looking to retire from Dusseldorf, in Germany to the Chester area.

Ronaldo Marcella, originally from Aberdeen, is a keen golfer and he and his wife Patricia plan to join a local club when they re-locate.

“Patricia’s from Warrington originally and we really love the area between Chester and Crewe so that’s where we’ll search for a house,” explained Ronaldo, an oil engineer.

“I told the producers that we’d like to play golf and join a club when we move so they suggested we did some filming at Chester Golf Club.

“Patricia had her first try at golf in front of the cameras and she holed her very first putt, which was great,” he said.

Patricia, who has just retired after 45 years working for British Airways, added: “I’m definitely going to take up the game. I’ve caddied for Ronaldo a few times so have a bit of an idea what is involved.”

The pair were filmed playing the par three eighth hole at the 6,461-yard long course alongside Chester Racecourse.

Ronaldo said: “I was very impressed with what I saw of the course and the club have kindly invited Patricia and myself back for a game when we move over.”

The programme has viewing figures of more than two million people and the episode, which will form part of the 16th series, is due to be screened in September.
