YOU’RE never too old to take up golf – just ask Chorley member Steph Patterson.
Five years after pegging up a ball for the first time at the age of 65 she swept to two major club titles last season and several other prizes and achieved a hole-in-one for good measure!
And the 15 handicapper is already excited about landing more silverware next season.
Steph, 70, said: “When I first started playing I wanted to encourage other ladies to follow suit. They started their own academy in 2015 which included taster sessions and trial membership and the initiative has grown.”
For the record, last season she won the President’s Trophy, Royal Jubilee fourball betterball with her playing partner Kath Clawson, and came second on a card play-off in the Preston Charities competition hosted by her home club.
She also made a clean sweep of the Best of Series Competitions by winning the Eclectic, the Birdie Tree, the Lora Fairclough Trophy and the EG Medal which gives her the opportunity to play in this year’s England Golf Regional finals.
